Lot's Wife

She is mentioned in Genesis 19:26 and Luke 17:32.

A woman living in a city filled with decadence and sin, she is abruptly forced out of her home. But she clings to what she knows, rather than to what lies ahead of her with fatal consequences. And so we are challenged not to look back at the past, but to the future where God is leading us.

Lot's Wife is my shortest character, but has proven to be one of the most powerful. People respond to her message. Interestingly, there really isn't a story to tell. We don't know anything about her – scripture is silent. Did she come with Lot from Haran (my choice), or did he meet her along the way. Genesis 12:5 says (when talking leaving Haran) "Abram took his wife, Sarai, and his brother's son, Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran" (emphasis added). That is my basis for the choice that she was from Haran. However, you may see if differently.

Lot's Wife

The telling of this story has resulted in two very memorable incidents, one I share in my personal testimony, the other I tell in "Lessons Along the Way." There have been several other very touching encounters with people who realized how harmful it had been in their lives to continually "look back." And just about everyone can think of something they are looking back at – distracting them from God’s plan for them today and in the future.
