Meet the Women

Stories filled with passion, power, and purpose

They were women of passion, power, and purpose, living in difficult times, facing undeniable odds. Some rose to meet the day's challenges. Others did not. Some held faith and courage close to their hearts. Others wavered, and stumbled toward faith when all else had failed. But whatever the circumstances, and however long ago they lived, these women carry messages of love, hope, and redemption that resonate in today's hearts and minds.

  • Abigail -Two husbands, one who married her for her beauty, one who saw something more in Abigail. Do you want to be known as simply a beautiful woman, or do you want to be known as a woman of good judgment and great character? That's the question Abigail has for each of us
  • Bathsheba - A young married woman, she sends her husband off to war again. Feeling lonely and unattractive, she decides to take a bath that might be viewed by the King, just wanting to be reminded she was still young and pretty. But there is a terrible price to pay for that decision. As women, how often do we misuse our beauty, not thinking there could be dire consequences.
  • Elizabeth - Old, all hope gone for a child, Elizabeth worries whether her husband has gone to the temple carrying a burden of disappointment. She challenges us to wonder whether we carry burdens of disappointment or feel barren.
  • Eve - Eve introduces sin into the world, but she also makes a startling discovery - there has been a sacrifice made on our behalf.
  • Herodias - Tormented by nightmares, she reflects on how she finds herself in exile, and comes to understand it is because of her desire for status and power and her buring need for revenge.
  • Job's Wife (no link currently available) - Married to the greatest man in the East, Job's wife's life was wonderful UNTIL it all started to fall apart. Her husband's response? Worship and praise God. She thought he was crazy - she wanted him to curse God and die. When difficulties arise, how do you deal with them?
  • Leah - Sadly, Leah spends a great deal of her life standing in the shadow of her sister Rachael's beauty, wanting something she can never have - Jacob's love, and feeling invisible. What becomes invisible to her is how much God blessed her.
  • Lot's Wife - Forced to leave her home in a rush, she gives in to her disobedient need to look back at the past, and becomes a pillar of salt. Are we looking back at the past, and therefore as paralized as she was?
  • Martha - Too busy to take the time to enjoy Jesus at her table, Martha is taught a valuable lesson - not that work isn't important, just that some times we need to put it in its place.

  • Ruth - Love brought this Moabitess to Bethlehem and it transformed her life. Let love transform your life - that is Ruth's challenge to us.
  • Sarah - Abraham's wife, taken from her home into an unknown land. Her story is filled with life lessons that are still so relevent today. Going out when God calls us - running ahead of God - wondering whether anything is too wonderful for God, are just a few.
  • Sinful Woman - Ashamed of her behavior, a woman hears about a remarkable man and sets out to see him. Recognizing Him for who He is, she falls at her feet with her sin and is forgiven. At the feet of Jesus - we can be forgiven!

  • Woman at the Well - An outcast, who has to fetch her water from the well during the heat of the day, yet when she meets Messiah, her first thought is to leave her water jar, and run back to town to tell those that shunned her about the good news.
