Frequently Asked Questions Q. What do great women from thousands of years ago have to tell us today? A. Women from the Bible carry messages across the generations that are very relevant to our daily life. They bring messages of faith, love, courage, taking a breath from the daily rush, and the living Christ. We can laugh with these women, cry with them, and see ourselves in their stories.
Q. Is this program only for women? A. No. Although Women of the Bible (WOB) is well suited for women's events, it is also very well received by men and children. It is generally not recommended for children under the age of six. Please note Anita has developed two stories, The Lost Coin and Jonah, geared specifically for children.
Q. How long is the program? A. Women of the Bible is very flexible. There are currently seventeen stories available from the Old and New Testaments, as well as Anita's personal testimony and/or "Lessons Along the Way." After determining the desired length of the program, any theme, the makeup of the audience and other pertinent information, a decision is made about which stories should be told in what order. Suggested programs can be found on the site to assist in your decision-making. Generally, a program is from 60 to 90 minutes in length. If used for a worship service or other special events, a program can be abbreviated to fit the time allotted.
Q. What is a typical program? A. A typical program would consist of visits from two or three great women from the Bible, with a musical interlude between each woman of about two minutes, and then concludes with a witness from Anita about how God's hand has brought her to this work. This program would be about 75 minutes in length.
Q. Can Women of the Bible be the theme for an entire conference or retreat? A. Absolutely. Because there are 17 characters to access, there can be multiple programs, with small-group discussions after each program. Discussions can be facilitated by a series of questions that relate to each character, which is provided by WOB. If approrpiate, Anita can also facilitate a drama workshop, or a time of sharing. WOB now has a lovely Companion Workbook that can be a great tool.
Q. Does the program have to conclude with a witness? A. No, the program can only have visits from Bible women. However, it should be noted that the witness at the end is very well received by the audience, and it is Anita's preference to include it.
Q. What happens between visits from the women? A. Typically there is exit music that reflects the theme of the woman. This gives the audience a moment to reflect on what has just happened. However, should you wish to have the visits woven into another program, that is also possible, though not recommended.
Q. Is this program only for churches? A. No. WOB has been performed at synagogues, nursing homes, schools, dinner meetings, retreats, as well as at church functions.
Q. Do we need a stage or other special equipment? A. No. The preferred location for performance is the sanctuary, should it be at a church, but WOB has been performed in fellowship halls, meeting rooms, private homes, gymnasiums and the like. WOB requires an electrical outlet, table, and a small, convenient location for costume changes. If the room has special lighting, that does enhance the program.
Q. What about sound equipment needs? A. For local events, WOB will bring a wireless microphone, iPod and small mixer, which we can hook into the sound system in the room where the program is being held. The only thing we need is a small table for set-up and an XLR connection into the existing sound system in the room. If the room is outfitted with up-to-date sound equipment, it may be that we only need to bring our wireless microphone. For events reached by air, WOB only brings a wireless microphone, and iPod and must rely on the client to provide an adequate sound equipment.
Q. What is the cost? A. First, "you get what you pay for." As Anita continues to improve WOB, the more in demand she becomes. As a result, her costs increase because of the need for more backup staff, web site management and promotional materials. Fees reflect not only the years spent in preparation and training, but costumes and props, travel time and loss of income, as well as the time it takes to make all the arrangements for an event. The fee for a performance of WOB is dependent primarily on the location of the program. Local Work (A booking that Anita can reach by car and can return home the same day.) - Fee starts at $700.00 (that is for work within one-hour's drive). There is a small additional fee for added driving time. Out of Town Work (A booking that requires an overnight stay): Driving - Anita generally travels alone and will require someone to assist her on site with technical needs. Lodging and meals would need to be provided by the client. Depending on the location, we would agree on a flat fee for the driving or a mileage allowance. We always recommend "piggy backs" for out-of-town work, as travel expenses can be shared. Out-of-town fees start at $900.00 during the week (for a single performance) and $2,200.00 for weekends (this includes three or four performances at different locations - Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday morning/afternoon - that is just $500 for each performance!). Additional performances can be "piggy back" booked at a reduced fee. Drama workshops can also be added at a reduced fee, or included as one of the performances. Flying - Anita travels alone, and will require someone to assist her on site with technical needs. The fees are the same as driving, except airfare would be substituted for mileage. Anita will require the client(s) to provide transportation from/to the airport and between bookings.
Q: Do you need anything else from me? A: Yes, an on-site "assistant." This person would be at the site the day of the program to meet Anita. If Anita is driving, this person would help with the unloading/loading of equipment/props. If Anita is flying, this might be the person to pick her up at the airport and take her to her hotel. The assistant would also make sure Anita is familiar with the facility where the event is being held. If there are any special "set up" needs in the meeting room, the assistant might help with that. This assistant could help Anita with her back-of-the-room table sales at the end of the program. If videos/brochures have been shipped ahead, the assistant would know the location of these items when she arrives.
Q: How about your associate Kathleen? A: Her technical needs are the same, however, currently she is only doing local work (within about an hour of Annapolis, MD). Her fee is $425.00 - unless there is additional driving time, in which case, the fee would be slightly higher. |
